Former Secretary of State Collin Powell's endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama came as a surprise to many. But how much will it help Obama?

I don't know what Powell was waiting for, I think that his endorsement would have been helpful if it came out before the foreign policy debate. Now, not so much. But I do think that emdorsements that cross party lines add to a comfort level for those voting for an unknown.
