Extreme makeover: A new GI Bill for the 21st century

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Last week, the House of Representatives voted in favor of a World War II-style GI Bill for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. The Senate is expected to vote on it this week. Now that the White House has withdrawn its long-held opposition to the bill, a new generation of veterans could see a doubling of college benefits.
Guests: Journalist Edward Humes and Iraq veteran Bryan Knudsen. Both agree that it'€™s time to give the 20th century GI Bill a 21st century makeover.

I was able to earn a Bachelor and Master degree at a state college under the Vietnam Era GI Bill and it cost me no money. It took the full 10 years allowed at the time. But, I held a day job, attended school at night, and raised my family.

This is the same plan we need for Vets today.
