Zimbabwean ambassador responds to international criticism following election

Monday, April 28, 2008

Since Zimbabwe held elections on March 31st, the ruling party Zanu-PF has faced a barrage of criticism for not releasing election results. Rights groups and religious leaders say they are witnessing a campaign of torture, harassment and intimidation aimed at opposition supporters and ordinary people.
Some western journalists have been imprisoned — and many more have fled the country. The official voice of the ruling party has been absent from most news coverage. Ambassador Chidyausiku is Zimbabwe’s permanent representative to the United Nations. He brings unique insight into the workings and attitude of Zimbabwe's administration. The Ambassador joins “The Takeaway” live to talk about life inside Zimbabwe, the mood of Zanu PF, and growing international criticism aimed at his country.

I did not see the point of interviewing the Ambassador. What new insights could you hope to gain from a Mugabe mouthpiece? This was a waste of my listening time.

Thanks for pressing for more info/clarification from the ambassador. Seemed like pulling teeth at times and I think you handled it well, despite the challenge.
